This week we've scrapped and rebuilt The Defect once again, deprecating and adding many various cards. Also, the Timeline is back! Because of this, you'll find that your progress has been reset and much of the game's content must now be unlocked via the Timeline. We'd especially appreciate any feedback you have on it! Other than that, some events have been rebalanced, art has been added, and bugs have been fixed!
CONTENT
General:
- Re-added and updated the Timeline
- Added various new Epochs

BALANCE
Events:
- Changed Drowning Beacon event:
- "Drink from the Tide Pool" option no longer costs HP
- Removed the "Transcribe the Drowned Psalm" option
- Reworked the "Grasp the Barnacle" option to "Obtain Barnacled Pipe. Lose 13 max HP."
- Changed Field of Man Sized Holes event: no longer has "Find Another Hole" option
- Changed Orb Glutton event:
- Reworked Glowing Orb relic to "Start Elite combats with an additional [E]."
- Buffed Broken Orbs relic: number of combats that grant 1 extra energy at the start increased from 3 -> 4
- Changed Morphic Grove event:
- "Flee" option changed to just remove a card
- "Submit" option changed to "Transform 2 cards. Lose 100 Gold." and can no longer be selected multiple times
- Changed Stone of All Time event: removed "Ram" option
- Changed The Endless Conveyor event:
- "Grab Something Off The Belt" options now imply that you will continue eating
- "Observe Patrons" option changed from transform a random card -> upgrade a random card
- Changed The Luminous Choir event: "Reach Into Flesh" option changed from obtain a relic -> remove 2 cards
- Changed The Whispering Hollow event:
- "Blood" option changed from enchant a card -> transform a card
- "Gold" option's potions granted increased from 1 -> 2
ART
- Added various placeholder Epoch portraits for Silent, Regent, and Defect
- Added beta portrait art for Apparition and Seeking Strike cards
- Added portrait art for the following cards:
- Calamity
- Catastrophe
- Order
- Prep Time
- Ultimate Defend
- Jackpot
- Rend
- Stratagem
- Added animations for Waterfall Giant
USER INTERFACE & EXPERIENCE
Necrobinder:
- Time's Up card now has a damage preview when you hover over an enemy
Potions & Relics:
- Meat on the Bone relic now pulses when it will heal you at the end of a combat
General:
- Implemented user-scoped save directories with platform-first hierarchy
- Added a ButtonColor override option for eventOption buttons
- Added a card count in the card library
- Timeline Era columns reveal their label and year upon slotting anything into that column
- Added custom colors for all Ancient event buttons + some are more opaque for visibility
- A max limit has been placed on the time it takes to shuffle your Draw Pile
- Staggered power now applies an Affliction to cards
- The player's first Epoch is now Neow, not the Ironclad one that did nothing
- Timeline Epoch count header now displays total revealed Epochs accurately
WORDING
- Fixed Gravity Well power description to read ".. deal X to all enemies"
- Fixed typo in Miniature Lab relic description
- Impossible Pyre event now says "Heal to full HP" instead of giving a specific number of HP
- Neow's Sturdy Brace blessing no longer includes the unnecessary "Upon pickup" wording
- Unhighlighted "Orb Slot" in Spinner card description
- Updated wording for a few relics, notably around the words "boss, "combat," and "encounters"
BUG FIXES
Silent:
- Phantom Blades no longer flashes on Shiv creation
Necrobinder:
- Lethality power now applies damage increase to all hits of a multihit attack
- Rattle card now properly glows red if Osty is dead
- Phantasmal Gardeners' Skittish power now activates on Osty attacks
Regent:
- Black Hole card no longer hits enemy for 0 if no damage was dealt to them this turn
- Gravity now counts as a buff for the player
- If a player has insufficient stars to play a card's star cost but sufficient energy to pay its energy cost, the card's energy cost is no longer red
Colorless Cards:
- Discovery card can no longer generate Royalties card
- Entropy card can no longer transform cards into cards like Feed that buff the player for the whole climb
- Hidden Gem card no longer takes a long time to resolve
Potions & Relics:
- Fixed title formatting for wax relics in relic inspection screen
- Melted wax relics no longer trigger their effects
- Lantern relic now has the correct energy icon in its description in run history
- Radiant Tincture potion now properly displays the colorless energy icon when viewed in the Potion Lab
Ancients:
- Apotheosis card can no longer show up in the Neow's colorless card blessing
- Bell of Twilight relic no longer waits for you to proceed from Neow's room before updating the map
- Darv's Calling Bell relic now includes hovertip for the Eternal keyword
- Icon now appears for Nonupeipe on the map
- Pael's Tears blessing now properly displays the current character's energy icon
Enemies:
- Burrower no longer is stunned for 2 turns if its block is broken during its turn
- Fixed enemy spacing on the Mytes combat encounter
Events:
- Violent Heroes 2 event now shows card preview in "Open The Letter" option
- You can no longer get the Spiraling Whirlpool event if you don't have any valid cards
General:
- Buffs to card values from effects like Strength power or Pen Nib relic are no longer previewed on cards that are in the player's deck, in a shop, or anywhere outside the player's hand or Draw/Discard/Exhaust piles
- Map can no longer be closed in a map room
- Cards with energy icons in their description now properly show the current character's energy icon instead of the colorless energy icon when displayed in hovertips
- If you reveal an Epoch slot and have already obtained that Epoch, the slots are now clickable before reopening the Timeline
- Fixed an issue where, after using the peek button in a card selection screen, the counts on the player's draw, discard, and exhaust piles would stop updating for the remainder of combat (huge thanks to Ellie for tracking down the reproducible steps for this one, we banged our heads on it for a long time without finding anything!)
- Fixed obtained offset in climb history when hovering over cards/relics
- Playing a card just before it is transformed no longer softlocks combat
- Top bar map button no longer continues to rotate if you spam click it
- Updates Epoch gain VFX to size asset properly
- Upon revealing any Epoch, all unlocks, timeline expansion, and the revealed epoch are saved
- You no longer get stuck when you spam click while the card inspection screen is closing
Multiplayer:
- Gang Up card description no longer includes total damage until you are hovering over an enemy
- Fixed an issue where a card could get stuck in the queue
- Hovertips on other players no longer get stuck on screen
- Save/load after a finished combat no longer softlocks when taking rewards.
PERFORMANCE
- Game is less slow when you have lots of cards
