STS2 Patch Notes — 2024-08-09

We're back to our regularly scheduled programming this week--another Slay the Spire 2 build is here! In terms of content for this patch we have two new Act 1 bosses and some new Regent cards along with lots of balance and UI/UX updates. And in even bigger news, we're switching to Steam builds from here on out!

IMPORTANT: this means you will have to mark the game as private on Steam so that StS2 and StS2-related activity is hidden on your profile like so: - Activate the game key in Steam - Right-click on Slay the Spire 2 in your library - Click Manage -> Mark as Private We've attached a video demonstrating the process, too. Just DM/ping Casey or Anthony for a key and they'll get you one! CONTENT:

Regent:

  • Added Lunar Blast card
  • Added Orbital Shield card

Enemies:

  • Added Vantom, a new Act 1 boss
  • Added The Kin, a new Act 1 boss
BALANCE:

Regent:

  • Changed Conqueror card: rarity increased from Uncommon -> Rare
  • Reworked Dying Star card:
- Cost lowered from 5 stars -> 3

- Enemy Strength loss from 3 permanent -> 9(11) this turn

- Damage decreased from 20(25) ->9(11)

  • Changed Mold the Stars:
- No longer loses stars

- Rarity decreased from Rare -> Uncommon

Colorless Cards:

  • Nerfed Omnislice: damage decreased from 12(18) -> 10(15)
  • Nerfed Ultimate Strike: damage decreased from 18(27) -> 12(18)

Ancients:

  • Nerfed Zlatir's "Freedom" choice: 3 cards -> 1 card

Enemies:

  • Changed Bygone Effigy
- No longer loses Slow

- Damage now ramps by 5 with every attack

  • Reworked Byrdonis
- Territorial power Strength gain decreased from 2 -> 1

- Peck now hits an additional time

- Screech no longer gives Frail and instead gives Weak and Vulnerable

- Moveset reworked, no longer random

  • Buffed Fogmog: damage increased from 7/13 -> 9/15
  • Reworked Phrog Parasite fight
  • Simplified Slumbering Beetle encounter:
- No longer gives status cards (so one less status fight in act 2)

- HP lowered from 86-92 -> 83-88

- Now gains strength when it rolls out

- Moveset is no longer randomized

Events:

  • Changed Welcome to Wongo's: now can only be encountered in Act 2
ART:
  • Added bloody impact, dagger spray, and dagger throw VFX
  • Updated Slippery Bridge, Stone of All Time, The Round Tea Party, and The Legends Were True event art
  • More card trail stuff, notably a lot more rendering and node order logic
USER INTERFACE & EXPERIENCE:
  • Added screenshake to the character select screen
  • Added card pick/win rate to compendium
  • Added offset to card screens scrolling to account for top bar
  • Added scrollbars to Potion Lab and Relic Compendium
  • Added scrollbars to card grids
  • All event options should now be title-cased
  • You can now right-click preview upgrade for Dolly's Mirror card selection screen
  • Card pile count and icon now increments in sync with cards and scale bump
  • Card reward icon changes to gold if you have Ruby Earrings
  • Card trails can now be rendered in the combat VFX layer or the layer right under the deck pile & Power card trails now fade out instead of abruptly vanishing
  • Cards which are played now render below deck and discard pile UI elements when flying towards them
  • Compendium cards now show the correct energy icon based on the card color
  • Different characters now have different map drawing colors
  • Discard and exhaust piles are now ordered by when cards entered
  • Draw Pile is now always sorted by Rarity
  • Egg relics now have a unique VFX to signal when they are applicable
  • Ethereal cards' interaction with Dark Embrace made more obvious through timing tweaks
  • Event options flash red when you would die from them
  • Hovertips now follow cards as they scroll up and down
  • Initial upload of assets for submenu locking
  • Locked menu items are now desaturated
  • Made transition screen resolution independent
  • Map nodes are less likely to clump together as their randomized positions no longer go as far
  • You can now mass upgrade preview cards from Smith selection
  • Queued cards float above the hand rather than on top of it
  • Regent character select BG constellations now only show up when you hover over them
  • Releasing the LMB while your mouse cursor is no longer hovering a button no longer clicks the button
  • Run History now reflects cards upgraded multiple times
  • Shrink hand selection cards so it no longer goes off screen if you have a lot of them
  • Submenu items which are locked have a big ol’ debug lock image on them now
  • Healing is now tracked in room history
  • Tweaked trail particle emission tweens and timings so cards flow into decks more smoothly
  • Wax relics are now noted in the Run History screen and show as wax in relic reward screen
  • WIP: detaching trails from card nodes for flexibility
WORDING:
  • "Negative" removed from strategic intent hovertip
  • ALL properly capitalized on Soverign Blade
  • Fixed incorrect newline on Anger card
  • Improved wording of Minion Swarm and Minion Guards
  • Moonshine renamed to Moon Brew to appease Australian authorities
  • Options -> Settings in main menu
  • Updated Ruby Earrings to specify combat card rewards
BUG FIXES:

Ironclad:

  • Combust damage will now correctly trigger Rupture
  • Fasten no longer increases Block gain from Feel No Pain power
  • Flame Barrier is now allowed to gain Nimble from Self Help Book event

Silent:

  • No longer can apply Nimble to Prepared card
  • Well Laid Plans power pluralizes the selection prompt

Regent:

  • "Set random card to free" effects should now target cards that only cost stars
  • Forge animation no longer gets stuck if you end combat while it’s playing
  • Radiate card description shows extra text in shop
  • Voidburn no longer procs on 0 star cost cards

Colorless Cards:

  • Peck card preview doesn't spawn off-screen
  • Toric Toughness can now gain Nimble properly

Potions & Relics:

  • Royal Stamp relic now mentions that it only applies to Attacks and Skills

Ancients:

  • Fixed Golden Path relic and spoils map quest softlock
  • Gloopy Eye relic now properly works if you don't proc it right away
  • Ruby Earring relic’s Rare cards no longer can dupe Rare cards naturally rolled in card rewards
  • Tezcatara’s Ember enchantment no longer softlocks Pandora’s Box relic

Enemies:

  • Axebot turn order is now from left to right no matter what order they respawn in
  • Globe Head lightning orbs will now proc after poison
Misc:
  • Fixed issue with run history screen when abandoning at an event room
  • Can no longer preview the upgrade of already upgraded cards in deck upgrade preview
  • Card hovertips no longer spawn off-screen
  • Cards going from play to discard (or other piles) should no longer change text.
  • Exhausted cards are no longer broken due to issue with trails
  • Godot now handles placing the window on the screen on first time running the game
  • You no longer softlock if you select potion reward when you have no room
  • No longer have status cards added to combat piles if combat is finished
  • Rigid enchantment description now reflects Dexterity increase
  • Room odds are now properly saved before rolling event rooms which fixes event rooms changing when saving and loading
  • Settings screen now opens into video options first
  • Stampede and other effects that play from hand no longer choose Bound cards
  • Targeting reticle no longer gets stuck when combat ends
  • Title screen music is now affected by overall volume correctly
  • Top bar buttons correctly switch animation states when screens are exited
  • Top bar no longer overlaps card grid in some selection screens
KNOWN ISSUES:
  • The card compendium "Show Upgrades" button currently doesn't work for most cards
